Serve in a School - Be a Tutor!

To ensure students receive the support they need to succeed, HandsOn Suburban Chicago (HOSC) has teamed up with area schools to implement or increase the capacity of existing community-based tutoring and mentoring programs.

Lunch Buddies - In-School Tutoring

Lunch Buddies is a lunchtime tutoring and mentoring program benefitting elementary school students. Opportunities are available in Palatine, Des Plaines, and Mount Prospect. Classroom Helpers

HOSC also works with a number of elementary schools in the area where additional help in the classroom is welcomed and needed. Volunteer tutors support K-5 teachers by providing additional assistance for the entire class or by helping individual students who may be struggling. Volunteer opportunities require a 1-2 hour commitment each week that school is in session. Tutoring times are based on teacher schedules. Background check required.

CHiL - After-School Tutoring Programs

CHiL is the HOSC-supported afterschool tutoring program at the middle schools in Community Consolidated District 21—Cooper, Holmes, and London. Dedicated community members are needed at least once per week for at least one semester to assist students with homework. No specific knowledge or education experience required. Background check required.

We are not currently accepting CHiL applications for this school year. Check back in August to apply to become a tutor during the 2017-2018 school year.
